About the Artwork

---

Growing up greatly fascinated with the beauty of marine life, it has not been a pleasant experience for Andy to see the reality of today’s plastic-filled ocean. Through this piece, Andy wants to remind us of the importance to be more mindful of our damaging habits, and to be more appreciative in our ways of treating the aquatic ecosystem.

About the Artist

---

A Jember-born artist, Andy Kurniawan sees art as a sanctuary for contemplation and self-expression. He started his artistic journey using traditional tools and skills he acquired from high-school art class and online learning platforms, such as SkillShare and Domestica. In 2018, Andy took to online platforms and social media to promote his works, where he met other illustrators whom he had cited as his main supporters in discovering his own style of art. His work was featured in a modest pop-up art event in 2021 hosted by moselo, an online art-dealing platform that has been crucial in helping Andy gaining broader audience and recognition for his art.

As an illustrator, Andy Kurniawan wishes to capture moments that emanate positivity. He regards illustration as simply a medium of communication. His works take inspiration from scenes of daily life, issues, feelings, animals, and faith. In creating his art, he has been working with various materials and tackling different issues.
